Health Tip: say good riddance to the clean-your-plate club

good riddance to the clean-your-plate

You probably remember the phrase “clean your plate”, or one of its variants, from your childhood, but as fond a memory as this may be, you’re no longer a child.

Good intentions aside, this habit, instilled a long time ago, could partially explain why you need to lose weight today!

Forget about the phrase: clean your plate

In adulthood, long after growth development has ended, scraping your bowl of stew to the last spoonful, or picking at the remaining crumbs of cake on your plate, is no longer necessary, especially when you’re not hungry. The key is to eat at a slower pace, always being aware of each bite and sensation, which is why eating in front of the TV is so bad for you.

Once you’re full, stop! Don’t feel guilty because of the food you left on the plate. If you’re at home, store leftovers in a container and keep them in the fridge. When dining out, ask for a to-go box upon ordering. Forget that old childhood phrase; move on and don’t feel obligated to finish everything on your plate.
