Tips to be healthier with your favorite foods!

don't miss out

You don’t have to completely give up that food you can’t live without but isn’t exactly healthy. Keep in mind that a healthy diet should be balanced; you can still enjoy your favorite foods even if they contain high amounts of calories, fats or added sugars… every now and then. These should always be accompanied by healthier food as well as more physical exercise.

Here are a few tips regarding ‘comfort’ food:

Take smaller portions. If your afternoon high-calorie food of choice is a chocolate bar, go for a smaller one, or even half of one. Be careful though, even if this method suits some people well, others will find having their favorite foods (albeit in smaller quantities) lying around to be too big a temptation. In other words, they are incapable of having access to a certain product without finishing it completely.

Consume them less often. Cut back to having them once a week or even once a month. This way you will reduce your calorie intake, since you won’t be eating certain food as often.

Go with a version that has fewer calories. Use low-calorie ingredients when you’re cooking or try out different preparation methods. For example, if your favorite mac and cheese recipe includes whole milk, butter and Parmesan cheese, try using skim milk, less butter, low-fat cheese, and add fresh spinach and tomato. Also, remember not to increase portion size.
