Whatever you may have heard or read, you should know that there’s no scientific evidence to support all the hype surrounding curved-sole sneakers as a way to tone your legs and burn more calories. In fact, the US Federal Trade Commission initiated legal action against one manufacturer for falsely advertising the ‘benefits’ of this kind of footwear.

Brands allege it’s this curved design which forces the user to use more leg muscle, thus burning more calories and toning that part of the body.

Curved-soled, or ‘toning’, sneakers are supposedly designed to simulate walking on an uneven surface. Brands allege it’s this curved design which forces the user to use more leg muscle, thus burning more calories and toning that part of the body.

However, as reasonable as this may seem, researchers have found no evidence to support this process. Moreover, no link has been established between this type of footwear and improvements in stability and balance.

To top things off, many consumer protection organizations from different countries have received multiple complaints involving foot, leg, and hip aches and pains associated to these shoes. We can, therefore, conclude that these shoes aren’t recommended for anyone with foot, leg, or balance problems. These shoes might not harm everyone else, but they definitely won’t offer any benefits.
